Low Waste Carpet Cleaner

dog-862939_1920As I unlocked my heavy apartment door my dog greeted me differently than usual. Instead of her cheerful licks and happy jumps she sat cowardly with her big brown eyes looking up at me. And then the smell hit me. She had an accident while I was at work and felt terrible. I quickly gave her snuggles and assured her it was ok. Accidents happen and when your pet has one it can be pretty stinky.

My apartment’s carpet was a grey color…and brand new….So I whipped up a carpet cleaner with low waste materials and gave it a whirl. And to my surprise it worked great! So here is what I used.

Please, note that my experience with this mixture might not be your experience so use at your own caution. You can purchase sample squares for around $1-$2 at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot. It may be a good idea to buy one and test it out before you use it on your home/apartment carpet.

What You’ll Need

1 Large Mason Jar

Soap Nuts

Apple Cider Vinegar

Lemon Citrus Essential Oil Therapeutic Grade

Teatree Essential Oil Therapeutic Grade

Orange Essential Oil Therapeutic Grade

Instructions

In a large mason jar mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 soap nut water (Soak the nuts in hot water). Add 4-10 drops essential oils of your choice. I use lemon, orange and tea tree oil for it’s cleansing properties and for it’s smell. Tighten the mason jar. Shake well. Apply to carpet and scrub out the mess. Should eliminate the smell and stain.
